Pug Houseguest

Apologies for our quietude over the past two weeks. I have been off on a couple of weekend quests to raise money for the hospital that helped Lola P’s angel grandma (more on those at the bottom of the post), so my computer time has been limited until now.

Lucky Lola P got to stay with her friends, The Fuppies, while I was away, and BOY, were they happy to see her! And I’m so happy that Lola’s Auntie Evelyn took so many photos to share.

Lola waited for me for a while by the front door of her temporary home…worried that she had been abandoned at Griffy Manor forever…

IMG_3805

She was so sad that Murphy came over to try to console her. Nice photobomb, Leo!

IMG_1346

And it wasn’t long before the promise of a lush lawn and some hardcore snuffling took over, and Lola P’s sadness was almost completely forgotten.

Murphy loves Lola SO MUCH…alas, it is very definitely an unrequited situation.

Admitting defeat, but still sitting by her BFF.

IMG_3806

By the time dinner rolled around, Lola was not only feeling at home, she was leading the Evening Vittles Brigade.

IMG_3803

And when I saw THIS photo, I knew that Lola P would never be coming back to her little tv-less apartment. Because…what is better than TV in bed???

IMG_3807

So everyone ends up happy, in the end.

And I apparently now have to start saving up for a giant, flat-screen tv. And cable.

Now that our schedule is a little bit more back to normal around Casa Lola, I think it’s time to start in on our summer adventures, don’t you? Oh, the sunshine and fun that awaits us!

NON-PUG STUFF!

Every year for almost a decade now, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, in Toronto, holds the Ride to Conquer Cancer – a 200+km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls to benefit the cancer research and treatments that the hospital offers. I also participate in the Journey to Conquer Cancer – a 1k, 3k, or 5k Walk/Run that allows families and the slightly less athletically inclined to participate. I ride and walk to support the Head and Neck Cancer team, because they basically became family over the years, and they really are amazing. If you’re a cyclist, it’s a fantastic ride to be a part of – consider participating in 2017!

BUT WAIT! I saw two pugs on the ride route who were cheering us on, so I just HAD to stop and say HI to them. I STOP FOR PUGS!

The Easter Puggie

IT’S HOLIDAY TIME!

And at Casa Lola, there’s only ONE thing to do on a holiday…

DSC_0774

I love how into the spirit of things she gets.

But never fear, Pug, there’s *always* something in it for you, too.

DSC_0777

Lola and I stick to the fun bits of most holidays, and for me, Easter is all about bunnies and chicks and chocolate and egg hunts and the promise of spring. So what’s not to love?

But back to the egg hunts.

The chocolate is for me, not for LP, so this morning, I thought someone would enjoy getting her breakfast in a slightly more fun way.

Eggs filled with kibble were hidden at pug eye level…

…and I set the pug bunny loose to see if she could sniff out her treats.

Lola Pug not only found the eggs, but she also very quickly figured out that stomping on them made them crack open and spill forth their breakfasty goodness.

Eight Easter eggs later…

Not only was breakfast served, but we had a total riot running around Casa Lola looking for eggs, hunting for spilled kibble and knocking all sorts of things over.

So perhaps the dressing up part isn’t so bad when you consider all of the fun that comes with it.

Happy Easter, Happy Passover and happy hunting to all of our friends today!

Pug New Year Adventures!

Wow, what a year 2014 was for us at Casa Lola.

Lola Pug and I both needed a good, long break over the holidays, and with the little one finally getting medical clearance to fly again, we have friends and family and far away places on our minds.

Up into the air we go, and off to a place that Lola and I both know well and love to visit…

…someone is never impressed with the weather out here, though….

Yah, honey – it rains here. A lot. But we flew such a long way, and we need to go outside in order to see our friends!

We finally got out and about, but a certain someone *clearly* wasn’t very impressed with me – or with our first destination.

But we didn’t come out all this way just to walk by ourselves! I clearly needed to get our social plans in gear before HRH called a mutiny on my butt, so it was time to call in the Big Guns.

We have so many very dear friends out this way, but the first chap on our visiting list was our long time friend, Sir Winston Wilbur…

…and his amazing little brother, Sam Cooper.

The dog park we went to is a busy one, and we always seem to meet new friends to hang out with. Jazz here joined us with some leftover Christmas spirit to share….

His little brother, Blue, took the holiday spirit a whole step further with his hilarious reindeer coat. Blue has magical powers, apparently, as the usual boss of all dogs in the park, Sam Cooper, fell in LOVE with him. Sam Cooper basically turned all of his attention to this little face instead of chasing the bigger dogs around.

The weather really was entirely trying to give us pneumonia, and Lola Pug and I have slightly thinner blood than the folks out here, so the coastal cold chills us a bit deeper. We had a quick run around and catch up and then bundled the boys into their chariot.

Lola and I bundled our shivering selves up and headed back to the car where we could crank the heat up and then head home to get ready for our next adventures.

…and adventures we are having.

We can hardly wait to share them with you, so don’t go too far!

The Pug is taking 2015 by storm, so watch out friends and family – you’re on our visit list this year!

Pugoween – Part the Second

The second Pugoween event turned out to be an even bigger (and funnier) event than the first one.

I wasn’t able to capture all of the amazing costumes, but if you buckle up for a it of a ride, here’s a taste of what to expect if you get a few dozen pugs and their people together at Halloween to raise money for rescue.

Candy Corn Witch pugs…

…Lobster Pugs who aren’t really lobsters…and aren’t really pugs, either…

…same goes for the Taco Pug…

…and the little Genie! (seriously – check out her NAILS, people!)

This little doll was dressed as a roadie for her beloved uncle’s band…

…what more need be said?

Another Genie Pug!

You can’t deny the awesomeness of a great outfit.

Our Candy Corn Witch pug won a prize in the costume contest, and she seemed to be pretty stoked about it…

…although little Magnolia the Sock Monkey seemed to feel a bit slighted.

…the pug who came dressed as a bath sponge did well, also. I think that his yellow rubber ducky had been purloined by the time I got to take his photo….

But it was the giant Pug Spider and his sibling the giant Pug Fly who took home first place honours in the costume contest, and it’s easy to see why.

Arachnaphobes BEWARE!

Lola took a moment to congratulate Pug Fly on his win. …at least I’m assuming that’s what she was doing.

Little Peggy the Ladybug wasn’t too impressed with the event.

…okay. She wasn’t too impressed with ME. She had a great time at the event.

Lions MUST wear pearls, don’t you know.

Formal photos were taken upstairs.

This little gal, Raisin, is a recent puppymill rescue, and a good portion of the funds raised will help with her upcoming medical costs. Poor darling has had a very rough go of it until now, but I think she knows she’s safe now.

Little men wore their best ties.

And some pugs preferred to hang out with their humans.

Best seat in the house, no?

Peachy Keen Pets was there to sell their fabulous harnesses, collars and leashes – with a portion of sales donated to the rescue!

With raffle prizes awarded, contests judged and pug portraits taken, the happy pugs started to slow down and give the universal signal for “can we please go home now?” to their people…

It was clear that everyone had a simply marvellous time.

But even Lola Pug was ready to call it a day. So many pugs and costumes to dream about on her homeward bound nap.

A total blast for pugs and their people, alike, and all for a fantastic cause. It was a of pugs helping pugs event, I suppose…with a little bit of human intervention thrown in, of course.

Until next Halloween….

Ziggy the Wonder Pug

Up here in Canadianaland, it’s a long weekend, and while summer long weekends are often best appreciated on the edge of a loon-laden lake, we decided to do something a little bit different this time.

Word came around to Casa Lola that a certain little someone had been busted out of a bad situation, and needed to find his way across the province to his new home. Now, transporting rescue pugs is something I’ve been doing for years, but this transport was a source of particular joy.

When we went to meet the little man, he sure seemed happy to see us…

…and he had no issue accepting love and affection…

…even his wobbly legs didn’t slow him down….

We could have played with him all day, but the next leg of his transport was waiting for us, so into the car we piled, and onto the highway we went.

Someone was a bit tuckered out from all of the excitement….

He slept like a champ all the way to his next pick up, and from what I hear, he continues to charm all he meets on his journey to freedom.

Welcome to your new life, little one. There are so many loving arms already around you!

If you want to find out more about pugs like Ziggy (and even Ziggy, himself), click a link or two up and over to the right here ⤴ to link to a few of the rescues we know and love here at Casa Lola.

In the meantime,  we hope that little Ziggy here has given you at least a little bit to smile about on this summer Monday.

Rescues Rock!

Coastal Friends

Lola Pug’s lifelong BFF and cousin, Roxy, is moving to the other side of the country shortly (cue the sadfaces at Casa Lola), so we invited the Little Miss and her people up to Lola’s northern playground for a weekend of adventuring and bonding before the big move.

One of the first things we all must do when faced with outdoor adventures is put on our hats and sunscreen, so Roxy reminded us all to do so before we set out….

The first order of the day was to have a little boating adventure, which Roxy took to like a …duck to water?

Lola, being used to such travel, was a little bit less impressed, but that also might have something to do with the fact that she’s rather grown out of her life jacket a little bit. (Middle age spread happens to the best of us, baby).

Not only did we have gorgeous sunshine and water, but we had jumping fish and giant aeries to be on the lookout for.

Once our not-quite-three-hour tour was done, we were all rather toasty, so we thought we’d bring the pugs to the water to cool down a bit.

Roxy has always been a bit of a water baby, so she was quite pleased with the refreshment.

Epic and proud, babygirl, epic and proud.

Lola, however, has *never* had a fondness for water OR being wet, so imagine my shock and temporary horror when THIS happened…

Yup.

She stood in the water in a dreamy state, thoroughly enjoying every soothing moment of the cooling wetness.

When I finally coaxed her out of the water to come up on a rock with her cousin to watch some passing boats…

…she turned around and walked back INTO the water for a bit more spa action.

Which prompted me to call out… “WHERE IS MY PUG, AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH HER???”

Oh.

We’re all back to normal now, I see….

Yes. That’s likely goose poop she’s smearing her wet face in.

That seemed to be enough adventuring for one day for these two, so we settled in for a little nap on the porch together.

Lola was a bit miffed that Roxy got her favourite chair…

…but we do these things for our friends. Especially when we might not see them again for a long, long time.

Love and kisses, little Roxy Pug. Here’s hoping we will get a chance to come and visit you in your new (and terribly exciting) coastal home before long.

Skye Loves Lola

Well.

Skye REALLY wanted to play with Lola, at least.

Lola? Not so much into it.

What a surprise.

Someone forgets what an insane, little puppy she once was.

And don’t worry, Lola Pug’s plea for rescue was heeded. I picked her up from where “the dog” was soon after this video was taken.

Honestly, Pug.

Pugs and Border Collies

Lola Pug and I went on a little road trip to visit old friends this long weekend, and we had a lovely time chilling, noshing, and catching up.

The last humid days of summer are upon us, so we went into the backyard to cool down for a bit, Border Collie style….

Skye LOVES his water hose.

And herein lies one of the great differences between pugs and so many other dogs…

Me? I can’t get over Skye’s happy snapping chompers.

But Lola Pug clearly had more civilised pursuits in mind.

You’re a tough audience to please, Pug.

Old Friends, New Friends…

…small friends, BIG friends!

Lola Pug isn’t generally enamoured with larger dogs… to put it very mildly. There are a few exceptions to the rule, and these are usually big dogs who are super gentle, or who are in love with (or indifferent to) smaller dogs.

Lola Pug’s friend, Georgia, however, fits into a category all her own….

Georgia and Lola were born within weeks of each other. Back in their puppyhood, Georgia’s Mum and I would often get together to compare our bloody fingers and toes given to us by the teething sharks while the little offenders would wrestle and play.

Despite Georgia’s typical GSP bounciness, she and Lola Pug love each other, and they are always happy to see each other.

When Lola and I were invited to go over and see Georgia’s new home out of town, we just couldn’t say no to a reunion, so we packed up the car and headed out for a visit.

On arrival, as it was a warm summer day, the wading pool was brought out, and Georgia made full, happy use of it.

Lola Pug. Not so much.

But unbeknownst to us, Georgia had invited some friends over!

Thankfully, they were all as lovely and sweet as Georgia, herself, so a lovely afternoon was had by all.

Group shot!

Well. At least the GSP’s look happy.

A successful visit overall, though, and every good encounter with a big dog might help LP get over her issues, so thank you, GSP’s, and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Summer Pug Stalking

Thank goodness for cooler weather!

The more humane temperatures have meant longer walks for HRH, and, seeing as it’s all about The Pug, we had a full-on “Pug’s Choice” walk the other day.

S0 guess where we ended up?

Yup. Right outside (and I do mean RIGHT outside) Lola Pug’s sister, Nelly’s, house….

But today wasn’t just ANY regular day of stalking…look who is coming out of the front door!

The Pug and I were both beyond excited to see little Nells, so I offered to take the little squeaker down the street for a walk with Lo.

Hey, girls, now that you’ve been reunited, what do you want to get up to?

After a little bit of secret pug discussion, it turned out they just wanted to hang out on the lawn and catch up on pug gossip.

All is well and all is good, and once again, Lola Pug has learned that relentless stalking works.

Well, at least we both win in this case.
