Pug Houseguest

Apologies for our quietude over the past two weeks. I have been off on a couple of weekend quests to raise money for the hospital that helped Lola P’s angel grandma (more on those at the bottom of the post), so my computer time has been limited until now.

Lucky Lola P got to stay with her friends, The Fuppies, while I was away, and BOY, were they happy to see her! And I’m so happy that Lola’s Auntie Evelyn took so many photos to share.

Lola waited for me for a while by the front door of her temporary home…worried that she had been abandoned at Griffy Manor forever…

IMG_3805

She was so sad that Murphy came over to try to console her. Nice photobomb, Leo!

IMG_1346

And it wasn’t long before the promise of a lush lawn and some hardcore snuffling took over, and Lola P’s sadness was almost completely forgotten.

Murphy loves Lola SO MUCH…alas, it is very definitely an unrequited situation.

Admitting defeat, but still sitting by her BFF.

IMG_3806

By the time dinner rolled around, Lola was not only feeling at home, she was leading the Evening Vittles Brigade.

IMG_3803

And when I saw THIS photo, I knew that Lola P would never be coming back to her little tv-less apartment. Because…what is better than TV in bed???

IMG_3807

So everyone ends up happy, in the end.

And I apparently now have to start saving up for a giant, flat-screen tv. And cable.

Now that our schedule is a little bit more back to normal around Casa Lola, I think it’s time to start in on our summer adventures, don’t you? Oh, the sunshine and fun that awaits us!

NON-PUG STUFF!

Every year for almost a decade now, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, in Toronto, holds the Ride to Conquer Cancer – a 200+km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls to benefit the cancer research and treatments that the hospital offers. I also participate in the Journey to Conquer Cancer – a 1k, 3k, or 5k Walk/Run that allows families and the slightly less athletically inclined to participate. I ride and walk to support the Head and Neck Cancer team, because they basically became family over the years, and they really are amazing. If you’re a cyclist, it’s a fantastic ride to be a part of – consider participating in 2017!

BUT WAIT! I saw two pugs on the ride route who were cheering us on, so I just HAD to stop and say HI to them. I STOP FOR PUGS!

Day 3: Pug In Nature Photography Challenge

Here’s a way-back flashback to when the Pug had nary a grey hair on her wee self.

This is more like it. Water in the far-off background.

Hm. My definition of “nature” seems to involve a lot of water.

Sorry, Pug.

At least she’s not near it again.

Yet.

IMG_0076

Come back for Day 4 of the Challenge tomorrow!

What is the Pug in Nature Photography Challenge?

I was recently challenged by Lola’s Uncle Deji to post a nature photo once a day for a week. These types of challenges don’t usually appeal to me, but then I thought that the world might be a slightly lovelier place if there were more photos of nature floating around. And then I realised that it would be an even more lovely place if there were more photos of Lola Pug in nature floating around.

So over the next week, I happily present to you daily updates of Lola Pug. In nature.

Lola and nature go together like me and camping.

Which is to say, not at all.

So this might be fun.

Belated Pug Birthday!

I carry all of the blame for this.

Lola P’s birthday was back in March, just before I started blogging again, and I realised only this week that I hadn’t posted ANY of the photos, and oh my god, how terrible, because they still make me laugh.

A true diva such as Lola Pug requires a bit of a splash on her birthday (11 years, dears – where has the time gone?!?), so the menus were planned, the (two) guests were invited, the party hats were unearthed, and the celebrations BEGAN!

Well. The photobooth was set up, is what I mean to say.

Lola P is really *such* a pro.

The crazy and overwhelming joy felt in the photobooth was only amplified when the Fuppies came over and joined the party.

Can you feel it?

Can you feel the love and joy and complete celebration?

I throw such amazing pug parties.

Happy belated birthday, my little Bean.

I love you more than I ever thought possible.

And boy, do you ever look fetching in pink.

Little Dog Party

Lola Pug and I have been pretty quiet for the past few weeks. Spring is trying it’s best to …spring… this year… Oh, that’s not true. It’s not trying at all. Life has been pretty grey and cool and wet around Casa Lola. Very uninspiring and kinda depressing, to be honest.

In my continually vain attempt to keep HRH amused, I thought she might enjoy a visit to see her Griffy friends (aka The Fuppies). Well, it turned out that The Fuppies were already having a casual party, of sorts, so the more the merrier!

Well. I guess that depends on what your idea of “merry” is.

photo

Little Murphy – always in love with Lola Pug, even though the feelings have never been even remotely returned – sat watching the craziness with her pug friend for a while.

IMG_3849

Everyone was having a whale of a time on the other sofa. So much so, that the humans decided it would be great to get all of the canines present together for a photo.

Let me introduce you to The Little Dog Gang… Leo, the Shih Tzu, Barkley, the Cutiepie, you know Murphy and Bosco, the Brussels Griffons, of course, and who is that in between the Griffies there? You see her – the really happy looking one…

I would like to think that Lola Pug simply loves to look at the camera, but I’m pretty sure that’s not quite what was happening here.

In fact, I think I might be making up for this transgression for quite some time to come.

Lola Pug. At a party. For DOGS!?!

Better go and read my Pug Parent Manual again.

In the meantime – COME ON, SPRING! I mean – really. If I don’t get some good adventures lined up for HRH, I’m going to be in some SERIOUS trouble pretty soon!

Until next week!

Bedstede Pugs on Bowen Island

To mark Lola Pug’s final full day on Bowen Island (at least on this trip), we took the pugs on a lovely, chilly beach walk, then bundled them up into the car to get a few provisions in town before heading home to warm up.

Never one to be outwardly impressed with much of anything, Lola Pug really takes all of her adventures in stride.

A quick stop off at my new favourite place on the Island…

…and we were all ready to head home. Even Miss Roxy was pining for a nap.

And I do think that Lola Pug was dreaming of warmer, drier places as she watched the goings on.

Now, Roxy’s people have something very special in their home that is a *perfect* way to warm up and relax after a winter adventure, and I couldn’t wait to get back to the house to try it out.

In our last post, I asked how YOU like to warm up, and both Hailey and Zaphod and our Southern Fried Pugs friends said that warming up by a fire (with bonus marshmallows) are their favourite things to do…but at Hacienda RoxSea, there is this amazing little nook that I had been ACHING to jump into.

This thing on the left isn’t a painting on the wall…and it’s not exactly a room….

…it’s an honest to goodness sleeping nook!

Bedstedes are Dutch, and I think they might just be the best thing I’ve ever seen in a house. THANK YOU, NETHERLANDS!

The pugs wholeheartedly agreed with me. Although that kind of makes sense, as it was the Dutch who first brought pugs over to Europe, and…wait…were bedstedes made specifically FOR cuddling with pugs? Or maybe just for pugs, themselves.

They might well have been, because Lola wasn’t too thrilled at the prospect of me invading her private mattress room.

With a little bit of rearranging, and the addition of a blanket along with the lovely Roxy…

…and maybe a little bit of wool for me to play with, we all settled in for a most excellent coze.

The lure of the cozy bedstede is so powerful, that Roxy’s Dad decided to join us, and we had a glorious time reading books, cuddling the pugs, chatting away and warming up.

Well. Some of us had a glorious time.

Oh, Lola, sharing isn’t *that* miserable, is it?

I have an awful lot to live up to now, as I believe I will now be expected to construct a bedstede at Casa Lola on our return. But only big enough for *one* pug, right, Lola Bean?

But we have a few more adventures to go on before we can rest at home, little one.

Stay tuned – The Pug is on the move!

Bowen Island Pug

Lola Pug has high expectations of her mama, and venturing to the other side of the country simply isn’t enough to keep her interested and happy, so when we got an invitation to travel *slightly* further abroad, we jumped on it.

Well. We jumped on a ferry, to be more precise.

After a short hop across a calm, cold, stretch of ocean, we found ourselves on a gorgeous little enclave of an island, and on a welcoming and happy doorstep.

Hey, Lola…Welcome to Bowen Island!

Turn around, honey…who is that coming out to greet you?

With a sniff, a happy bum wiggle, and a few little kisses, Roxy welcomed us to her new and beyond beautiful home.

It was as if the two best friends had never been apart.

Without any delay, we all piled into the car to catch the sunset from the local beach.

We arrived just as the heartiest of the locals were wrapping up the annual Island Polar Bear Dip, so we were gratefully able to warm ourselves by the remnants of their bonfire.

Well. Lola Pug and I warmed ourselves. Roxy kept herself warm by busily scrounging around the beach for leftover hot dog motes.

Busted, babe.

The sun started to set, and all was well with the world.

It was suddenly quite easy to understand why Roxy and her people had succumbed to the siren call of island life.

We bundled ourselves up and headed back to the house to warm ourselves by another fire to get the cold ocean air out of our bones. But not before a look back at a gorgeous end to a happy day of travel and reuniting with dear friends.

Bowen Island, it’s a pleasure to meet you!

Now. Time to warm up and rest up for our ongoing adventures.

Pug New Year Adventures!

Wow, what a year 2014 was for us at Casa Lola.

Lola Pug and I both needed a good, long break over the holidays, and with the little one finally getting medical clearance to fly again, we have friends and family and far away places on our minds.

Up into the air we go, and off to a place that Lola and I both know well and love to visit…

…someone is never impressed with the weather out here, though….

Yah, honey – it rains here. A lot. But we flew such a long way, and we need to go outside in order to see our friends!

We finally got out and about, but a certain someone *clearly* wasn’t very impressed with me – or with our first destination.

But we didn’t come out all this way just to walk by ourselves! I clearly needed to get our social plans in gear before HRH called a mutiny on my butt, so it was time to call in the Big Guns.

We have so many very dear friends out this way, but the first chap on our visiting list was our long time friend, Sir Winston Wilbur…

…and his amazing little brother, Sam Cooper.

The dog park we went to is a busy one, and we always seem to meet new friends to hang out with. Jazz here joined us with some leftover Christmas spirit to share….

His little brother, Blue, took the holiday spirit a whole step further with his hilarious reindeer coat. Blue has magical powers, apparently, as the usual boss of all dogs in the park, Sam Cooper, fell in LOVE with him. Sam Cooper basically turned all of his attention to this little face instead of chasing the bigger dogs around.

The weather really was entirely trying to give us pneumonia, and Lola Pug and I have slightly thinner blood than the folks out here, so the coastal cold chills us a bit deeper. We had a quick run around and catch up and then bundled the boys into their chariot.

Lola and I bundled our shivering selves up and headed back to the car where we could crank the heat up and then head home to get ready for our next adventures.

…and adventures we are having.

We can hardly wait to share them with you, so don’t go too far!

The Pug is taking 2015 by storm, so watch out friends and family – you’re on our visit list this year!

Pugoween – Part the Second

The second Pugoween event turned out to be an even bigger (and funnier) event than the first one.

I wasn’t able to capture all of the amazing costumes, but if you buckle up for a it of a ride, here’s a taste of what to expect if you get a few dozen pugs and their people together at Halloween to raise money for rescue.

Candy Corn Witch pugs…

…Lobster Pugs who aren’t really lobsters…and aren’t really pugs, either…

…same goes for the Taco Pug…

…and the little Genie! (seriously – check out her NAILS, people!)

This little doll was dressed as a roadie for her beloved uncle’s band…

…what more need be said?

Another Genie Pug!

You can’t deny the awesomeness of a great outfit.

Our Candy Corn Witch pug won a prize in the costume contest, and she seemed to be pretty stoked about it…

…although little Magnolia the Sock Monkey seemed to feel a bit slighted.

…the pug who came dressed as a bath sponge did well, also. I think that his yellow rubber ducky had been purloined by the time I got to take his photo….

But it was the giant Pug Spider and his sibling the giant Pug Fly who took home first place honours in the costume contest, and it’s easy to see why.

Arachnaphobes BEWARE!

Lola took a moment to congratulate Pug Fly on his win. …at least I’m assuming that’s what she was doing.

Little Peggy the Ladybug wasn’t too impressed with the event.

…okay. She wasn’t too impressed with ME. She had a great time at the event.

Lions MUST wear pearls, don’t you know.

Formal photos were taken upstairs.

This little gal, Raisin, is a recent puppymill rescue, and a good portion of the funds raised will help with her upcoming medical costs. Poor darling has had a very rough go of it until now, but I think she knows she’s safe now.

Little men wore their best ties.

And some pugs preferred to hang out with their humans.

Best seat in the house, no?

Peachy Keen Pets was there to sell their fabulous harnesses, collars and leashes – with a portion of sales donated to the rescue!

With raffle prizes awarded, contests judged and pug portraits taken, the happy pugs started to slow down and give the universal signal for “can we please go home now?” to their people…

It was clear that everyone had a simply marvellous time.

But even Lola Pug was ready to call it a day. So many pugs and costumes to dream about on her homeward bound nap.

A total blast for pugs and their people, alike, and all for a fantastic cause. It was a of pugs helping pugs event, I suppose…with a little bit of human intervention thrown in, of course.

Until next Halloween….

Pugoween – Part One

Halloween might as well become a Pug High Holiday, because few things bring on the joy for pug people more than putting their furry loved ones into costumes.

To celebrate the occasion – and to raise a bit of money for the rescue pugs who so often need medical care – Pugalug Pug Rescue holds not one, but TWO Pugoween events in and around our area.

I couldn’t pick which of the two events I wanted to go to, so I went to BOTH! There were so many fun and amazing costumes to share with you, so this will have to be a two-part post, but I don’t think you’ll mind much.

Ever see a Stegopug?

Well, now you have.

A certain cowboy doesn’t look like he’s enjoying the song that his handsome steed is singing.

Some pugs take dressing up in stride, and simply soak up the love that looking extra cute brings.

DSC_0102

Miss Puggy became impatient to have her photo taken. So in character!

DSC_0086

Pug people are typically a warm and welcoming bunch, and all friendly dogs are welcome to become honourary pugs for the day.

But even honourary pugs need a break from the costume fun sometimes.

Some more so than others.

Little Oscar here was scared by a witch, and then a lobster pug sent him over the edge, so he spent the afternoon cuddled up with his Auntie in the foyer. (Oscar did not like his costume one bit, so he came au naturel)

Little Josephine grew some spooky wings for the day.

The Puparazzi even came along!

And we can’t leave this post without paying due respect to this most creative and hilarious costume….

Someone doesn’t look too impressed with his lot in life.

After the judging was over, the running around and the playing started to wind up, and the pugs started to go home to their soft beds.

Bella looked a bit over it all…or perhaps she was sad that the party was over for another year.

But don’t worry, beautiful girl! There’s another Pugalug Pugoween happening in the next post. The fun has just started!

Have you picked out a favourite pug costume?

Griffy Love, Lola Pug Style

Despite their insanely cute appearance and entirely good natured personalities (or perhaps because of these), Lola Pug really isn’t into Griffies. It’s not limited to the Fuppies, either, as little Winston, who we met at a street fair in Chicago, will help demonstrate…

Oh, Pug. Honestly.

We have a BIG week ahead, with Pugoween topping it all off, so expect an extra costume-filled blog post or two this coming week.

Stay warm, stay safe and go find a Griffy to hug today!
