The (Pug) Hunger Games

I’m always looking for new ways to keep HRH amused, so when a call for volunteers came out from UofT’s CoCoDev Lab, I gleefully signed Lola Pug up to be a test subject. I mean – what better way for her to have fun than to play with new games and puzzles. And maybe I could learn a thing or two from the brainiac experts in the room.

Lola wasn’t sure what was up, but she sure was crazy-face excited to be there.

She had a sniff around and settled in a bit..then it was time to LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

She eventually sort of kind of figured out this one…okay. Not really. But we laughed an appropriate amount watching her try to figure out what it was that got the kibble flowing.

(Editors note: It should be noted that when a certain little someone wasn’t getting more kibble from the magic box, she started shouting at it. Guess what? Shouting doesn’t get you anywhere. It just makes the human monkeys laugh.  And so the lesson ends.)

On to the next game…and she’s having FUN!

Studying hard…

…full steam ahead…

…studying hard again…

…why do all the hard work when you can simply stare at the human until they become uncomfortable and they just do it all for you? Like they should have in the first place?

I think that we learned a WHOLE LOT about PUG cognition today. Don’t know about those other dogs, but Lola P knows her place in the world, that’s for sure.

40 minutes passed by SO quickly. Thanks, again, to the fabulous, smart, and super friendly team who are doing this great research, and we hope to see you again at another session.

If you want to learn more about the canine (and human) cognitive research being done at the University of Toronto – at least as far as this project is concerned – you can visit the CoCoDev Lab website, or go to Emma Tecwyn’s blog (Emma is the person holding LP in the photo above) for more photos and details.

See you next week for a whole new adventure!

Ooo, this sounds so much fun! Yoshi wouldn’t have a CLUE! hahahaha! Sophie would just knock everyone out of her way to get the kibble.

Oh my pug! I wish we could have been there to see the session. Such fun for everyone! Payton would have loved something like this. Not sure how D&D would handle it.
