Marathon Pug

Despite my intentions to sit on my butt and eat croissants and chocolate as the marathoners passed by our home this morning, I found myself out with The Pug, cheering on the runners in their mad dash to the finish line (which was a long way off for them when they passed by Casa Lola).

I mean, what could be better for morale than seeing a PUG come out to cheer you on?

Ah. Yeah. Maybe not this pug.

She *did* bark at a few runners on our walk back home, so I take that as showing support. …although if I spoke fluent Pug, I would likely have heard something more along the lines of, “What! Are you people INSANE? Go back home and GO BACK TO BED!”

So much energy wasted, eh, Pug?

You’re right. Time for a nap, little one.

Too much excitement for one morning.

Cone Head … Continued

Yup. We’re still here.

Still stuck in a cone.

It’s hard for LP when she can’t chase balls, lick my face, or play with her friends (they’re all terrified of her cone, so they keep a good distance from her, poor bean).

Heck, she can’t even eat or drink water without my lifting the bowl up for her.

But perhaps this time of rest and contemplation is good for her puggie soul, because, really, she is a lucky little girl.

I like to think that she’s using her extra energy to heal her eye, but I rather suspect she’s actually carefully plotting out how she’s going to wreak havoc when she’s finally cone-free again.

Keep healing, bubbah, keep healing!

The Pug Posse

So – where were we again? Oh, yes. Pugs!

As I was saying, hanging out with the Pug Posse is a treat for Lola Pug, but it was a special treat for me this time around, because there has been a new addition to the group…

…Josephine!

Now you might not be able to see it when she’s in a solo photo, looking all epic and all, but Jo is what I refer to as my Achilles heel … my Kryptonite. She is a wee black pug puppy.

Perhaps sitting against her foster-sister, Truly, will help her seduce you into her tiny, saucy world….

Now who, you might ask, is Truly? This gorgeous girl is yet another poster child for why potential families should never shy away from dogs with “disabilities”.

Just as with Truly’s other foster-sister, Hazel, you would never really know that she had vision problems. She is just as sassy, playful and as loving as any other pug (more so, in Truly’s case, in fact), and BOY can she be a cheeseball. She *is* a pug, after all.

Rounding out the Pug Posse is the grand gentleman of pugs. Tank. Known in the rescue world as a “foster failure”, Tank managed to charm and wiggle his way into his foster family’s hearts until the thought of life without him became unfathomable. He has presided with great style (and patience), over the Pug Posse ever since his formal adoption almost five years ago.

And no visit is complete without some time with Miss Hazel. After running around like a complete maniac with the other pugs, she needed to recharge her solar panels, and so chose the *hottest* sunbeam in the garden to go and bathe in.

Keeping it classy, Hazel Bean.

So where was Lola Pug in all of this pugginess?

Well. Sitting in the grass, trying to convince me that she had no reason to be communing with these four-legged, hairy creatures, and whyohwhyohwhy couldn’t we just go home where she could be dignified and regal in peace?

Seriously, pug. That look you’re shooting me is just convincing me we need to do this more often.

And speaking of looks … I’d keep your eye on that little one. She’s got your attitude written all over her.

Chillin’ with Friends

Despite The Pug’s insistence that she is Lord and Queen of All that is Me, she is still a pug, and she needs to get out and mix with her brethren every now and then.

Fortunately, one of our (human) friends is a pug lover who is also a Pugalug Pug Rescue foster mom extraordinaire. When we are *very* lucky, we get to go over and hang with her brood for a couple of hours, and puggie mayhem ensues.

Well. This would be post-mayhem sunbeam time, of course.

Hazel was outnumbered by the black girl pugs this time around, but give that girl a sunbeam, and she doesn’t care one whit.

And who are the other two gorgeous girls sitting with Lola Pug?

More on them in the next post….

Tuni Tuesday Tribute

*sigh*

We seem to be losing a lot of friends this year, which either speaks to the number of buddies we have met online, or perhaps to the fact that is just a bad year for losing friends.

Tuni was a teeny, tiny, spunky rescue pug whose antics were a delight to follow online. Tuni’s pug love (and Lola’s BC buddy) Winston, has asked that Tuni’s pug friends post photos of  themselves cozy in their beds, as a tribute to this special, little soul.

For you, Tuni.

May Emma and Sequoia and your new baby brudder help your people through this challenging time, and don’t forget to send them a reminder every now and then that you are running happy and free up at the Rainbow Bridge.

Lots of pug love, little one.

Sauce and Beans

The recent heatwave here has meant that The Pug has been getting very short walks at odd (and “cooler”) times of day. No play dates with friends, no adventures. No way to burn off all of that pug energy that lurks within.

Add the Summer Solstice into the mix, and I have a pug who is waking me up with the sun and the birds at 4:00am. …by jumping on my head and woo-woo’ing at me until I relent and drag my insanely exhausted carcass up to bring her outside.

When The Royal Schedule gets thrown off, it seems we all go a little bit out of whack.

Now that you are blissfully cone-free, Your Royal Highness, and thank goodness the heatwave is over, perhaps we can find a buddy for you to play with.

The Bean Train to Beanstown is fully loaded in the station, and the next stop is Saucymonkeytown. Woo! Woo! (indeed!)

The Visitor

As Lola Pug is an only child, I often arrange for play dates with her friends, just so she can get her dog on with her fellow canines.

Every so often, the opportunity to meet a new buddy comes along, and I jump at the chance. Socialisation never ends for people or dogs!

So when I heard that a new “friendly” was coming over to visit Rocco’s house, Lola Pug and I booted on over to meet him.

He certainly left quite the first impression on The Pug when we walked in the door…

…Rocco…you seem to have a similar opinion to Lola Pug…

Goodness, you two – what on earth is up?

…um…okay…I’m starting to see what you’re up against here…

Who could this creature BE?

When Pugs Nap

Seriously.

She does this to me ALL THE TIME….

It’s like having three animals in one – a pug, a cat and a parrot.

(Truth be told, I think she does this so her butt can be closer to my face when she needs to … um … pass wind. I’m quite serious.)

I love you, my little monkey. Maybe even more so because you’re SO WEIRD.
