Crabby Uncle Monty

When Lola Pug came into my life all those years ago, she had the great fortune to have a built-in pug family in the form of Montgomery and Grace.

…well, I never said that it was a *functional* family, did I?

Darling Gracie aside, Lola Pug became very attached to Monty, and even as he aged into his “Crabby” stage, she loved him dearly. It’s easy to see why…

Even to this day, years after Monty left for the Bridge, the mere mention of his name makes Lola Pug’s ears perk up. She’d love nothing more than to have him strut through the door again and crank at her.

And considering how their very first meeting went when she was only a few months old, that still surprises me somewhat….

Let it never be said that pugs can’t talk.

Love to you up there Mr. Monty, and thank you for guiding my little one through her first years.

Kitty vs Pug

No pug puppies were harmed in the making of this post…

…really…

…not even her dignity.

You should SEE what the cat puts up with from this little one.

Seriously.

Chillin’ with Friends

Despite The Pug’s insistence that she is Lord and Queen of All that is Me, she is still a pug, and she needs to get out and mix with her brethren every now and then.

Fortunately, one of our (human) friends is a pug lover who is also a Pugalug Pug Rescue foster mom extraordinaire. When we are *very* lucky, we get to go over and hang with her brood for a couple of hours, and puggie mayhem ensues.

Well. This would be post-mayhem sunbeam time, of course.

Hazel was outnumbered by the black girl pugs this time around, but give that girl a sunbeam, and she doesn’t care one whit.

And who are the other two gorgeous girls sitting with Lola Pug?

More on them in the next post….

Why Did The Pug Cross The Road?

…so where were we?

Oh, yes. FARMER’S MARKET!

Up until this farm visit, the most intriguing thing about farms for Lola has been horse poop. Apparently, even to Princess Pugs, it is the most delectable smell (and taste – let’s not talk about that, please) on the planet.

The Man and I were wandering through the small orchard at the farm when someone caught Lola Pug’s eye…

…and her world was never the same again….

“Free Range” has nothing on this gal, let me tell you. Next time out, I’m getting there early enough to get some eggs, too.

But back to The Pug. Well. It took her a second to take in what she was seeing…

…and then it was as if every single primal neuron in her brain woke up and started firing at the same time…

…and her life’s purpose was revealed to her in a flash…

Lola Pug.

Chicken Hunter.

She made noises the likes of which I have never heard before.

Squeaky, primal pug noises.

The noises of a pug denied the hunt.

(I have a healthy respect for chickens, and I wasn’t about to let her torment this one. Especially since I suspected the chicken actually might be able to taker her on.)

When it came time to leave, a certain someone wanted none of it.

First, I wouldn’t let her hunt chickens – the clear and core reason for her being put on this earth. Then, I insisted that we go HOME?

She simply wouldn’t budge.

It took about three days of sulking before she got back to normal, and I still haven’t decided whether another chicken visit is a good idea, but something tells me I’m too much of a sucker for The Pug to deny her for long.

Farmer’s Market Pug

A major source of late summer joy for me are farmer’s markets. Traveling, or at home – markets are so much fun.

An even bigger joy? Farmer’s markets that are local, preferably organic-ish and PUG FRIENDLY!

I mean, come on. Who could resist?

If you turn around from reading the sign, you can see where your produce comes from…

See what I mean? AWESOME!

But this is a pug blog, so what of HRH? Well, when we went here a few weeks ago, she wasn’t too impressed with the (amazing) beets and chard, but she sure was interested when she came across a random saddle pad in the apple orchard…

(please note her front, left leg – she is in FULL ON intense investigation sniffy mode here)

It would seem that the ultimate in puggie ambrosia is equine in nature, which I can’t argue with.

…or at least it was until someone else showed up on the scene….

(to be continued)

Pug People Unite!

Now – onto our summer adventures!

One of the best things about blogging Lola Pug’s adventures is that we get to meet some really fantastic people from all over the world.

We have already become real-life friends with Winston and his people, and now we can add the wonderful Christy and Tim – Angel Pug Payton‘s people – to that list.

With a bit of planning and some good luck, we were able to meet up with them all last week for a private people/pug meetup…

Lola Pug, Christy and Winston

Okay. So Lola wasn’t too impressed, but her indifference merely cemented our suspicions that Lola and Payton were, indeed, soul sisters. And Christy and Tim are as lovely in real life as they are online.

I had to get a photo of Christy’s uber-sweet tribute to Pugnacious P.

Needless to say, the pugs weren’t overly impressed by our standing around and endlessly gabbing away. By the end of our visit that day, Lola was tired, so I asked if she could share a ride with Winston in his stroller.

Now, Winston is a gentleman, but I wasn’t sure how Lola would react to sharing such tight quarters with another pug…

…and the concern was clearly all for naught.

We left our meet up with full hearts, and a little gift from Payton… but that is a whole other post unto itself….

Summer? Where Did it Go?

I simply cannot remember a busier August than this one. Okay. July, too. And perhaps June.

I mean – it’s already time to start thinking about the pug’s (and my) favourite season – Autumn. Holy moley, I’m still thinking I have the whole summer ahead of us!

Lola Pug and I have spent good chunks of the summer traveling, seeing friends and having amazing pug adventures.  The little Bean makes friends everywhere – she charms the airport security staff every time (thank goodness), and the good folks at WestJet even greet her by name when we board the plane now.

Seriously, though. Who could resist this face?

We’re finally back on home soil for a little while, so that should give us time to catch up on all of the pug news that’s fit to blog about.

Oh, it’s tough being my pug, I tell you….

Tennis Pug

When The Pug was a puppy, she was a total flight risk (still is, actually – she IS a PUG, after all), so the only places I felt safe releasing her in were fenced, protected areas.

We often have access to a lovely private tennis court, and Lola Pug has come to know the court as a place of great joy and glee, and she leads me there immediately on arrival.

Is she in it for the fashion? The social scene? The cocktails? (isn’t every proper sport really best followed by ice cold cocktails?)

Nah. It’s all about the BALLS!

On a tennis court, Lola’s inner beast is unleashed, and she becomes a focused, flying huntress who would rival any Serengeti cheetah pursuing her prey.

Um. Pug?

Seriously? After all of that, you want us to believe that you are dignified and composed while on a tennis court?

Seriously, though. On the court, watching from the sidelines, even watching it on TV, Lola Pug is a total tennis junkie.

Whatever makes you happy, my love.

Your puggie wish is my ultimate command.
